The Frugal Gingerbread House

Thanksgiving and Black Friday are over, now it’s time to really get cranked up for Christmas! Yay!

Here are some ways you can save money when constructing this year’s Gingerbread House!

The Structure

Rather than buying an expensive kit, pick up a box of graham crackers for a fraction of the price. In addition to being cheaper, they actually taste good.

The Frosting

Gingerbread houses need a special kind of frosting called Royal Icing to serve as the “mortar.” Instead of buying pricey tubs or trying to use regular icing (with less than desirable results), make your own using this recipe!

Decorations

Did you save your leftover Halloween candy? If so, great! That’s one less thing you’ll have to buy!

If you don’t have sprinkles, try mixing granulated sugar and a little food coloring to make colored sugar.

Building Tips

Use things found around the house to help support your structure on the inside. You won’t be able to see them from the outside.

Make your own piping bags by snipping the tips of Ziploc baggies.

The closeness and interactivity of a smaller circus is so much better than the HUGE arena-packing circus shows. Not to mention how much more affordable it is, how much easier it is to get in and out, not having to get into the thick of Downtown Atlanta to reach Philips Arena.
